What are plant-based body butters?

Plant based body butters are derived from the kernels, beans, nuts and seeds of numerous plants. They contain no water, but are made of rich fatty acids that make them solid at room temperature and melt upon skin contact. They are packed with lush moisture and protective properties that provide esteemed nourishment to your skin. Plant-based body butters are able to sink deep into skin, unlike commercial moisturizers, and deliver hydration and nutrients that are a natural solution for cracked, dry skin and more! Since they are naturally derived, they typically work well even for sensitive skin.

What makes plant-based body butters so beneficial?

Their composition! Plant based body butters are so skin nourishing because of the essential fatty acids, vitamins, proteins, antioxidants, polyphenols and minerals that are naturally occurring and of which are critical to healthy, glowing skin.

The essential fatty acids (EFAs) contained in plant-based body butters are Omega 3, Omega 6, and Omega 9. They are called essential because our body does not make them so they must be supplemented. We are able to obtain EFAs from our food: fish oils, walnuts, leafy greens…however, applying them topically is also beneficial.

The type of Omega 3 contained in plant-based body butters is Alpha-Linoleic Acid (ALA) and improves skin’s durability, reduces inflammation, improves brightness and can have some effect against UV damage.

The type of Omega 6 contained in plant-based body butters is Linoleic Acid which is vital to the growth and function of the epidermis (outer layer of the skin). A deficiency of linoleic acid can result in damaged, weak, and dry skin, so topical application can protect and firm up damaged skin.

The Omega 9 in plant-based body butters is Oleic Acid. Oleic Acid can be produced in the body, however, sometimes our skin might be off-balance so topically applying Oleic Acid can lock in moisture and keep the skin functioning well.

In addition to the EFAs, vitamins, and minerals, some, not all, plant-based body butters can contain Palmitic Acid which delivers high moisture and a barrier to slow moisture loss from the skin. Additionally, some may contain Stearic Acid which treats and prevents dryness, but also cleanses to fight against clogged pores and black heads.

God is so good! He has put everything we need to care for ourselves on this earth in nature!
