From Local Farms to Our Formulas: Our Tallow Story
Share
An ingredient list tells you what’s in a product, but it doesn’t always tell you where those ingredients began. For the tallow we use at The Bath Shoppe, that story starts with local farms and continues in-house.
We make our tallow in-house from fat sourced from local, pasture-raised, grass-fed and grass-finished cattle. The farm uses regenerative farming practices and describes its approach as following organic practices, though it is not certified organic.
Those details matter to us. They’re part of how we choose our ingredients, not simply words to put on a label.
What grass-fed and grass-finished means
When we describe our source as grass-fed and grass-finished, we’re talking about how the cattle were fed through the finishing stage, not just during an earlier part of their lives.
We share both terms because we want customers to understand what we mean when we describe where our tallow comes from.
Why we make our tallow in-house
Our role doesn’t end with choosing the source. We make the tallow ourselves, bringing another part of the ingredient’s journey into The Bath Shoppe.
It’s a hands-on connection between the raw material we source and the ingredient we use in our formulas. For us, that work is part of the story worth sharing.
Sourcing with intention
Local sourcing and regenerative farming are important parts of our ingredient choices. They describe the origins and farming approach behind this ingredient, rather than a promise about how a finished product will perform on every person’s skin.
We believe those distinctions matter. We want to tell you what we know about our ingredients without asking a sourcing claim to stand in for the whole formula.
Beyond the ingredient label
Our earlier ingredient-label conversation focused on understanding what goes into a product. This is the next part of that conversation: understanding where an ingredient comes from and the work that happens before it becomes part of your routine.
For our tallow, that means local sourcing, thoughtful farming choices, and preparation in-house. It’s one piece of the care behind The Bath Shoppe.
